This vintage handbag looks to have been made between 40s to 50s. It is in beautiful vintage condition with the original care tag still inside.
This vintage ornately embroidered and decorated clutch styled evening handbag was made in India by Continental Jewellers and is reminiscent of Designer Rare Van Cleef Arpels Style Jeweled Bag Clutch.
The outer shell of the purse has been intricately embroidered with inset cabachon polished stones. The interior has silk lining and compartments, and is secured with a large snap clasp.
Once used to adorn the clothes of Indian royalty, zardozi (sometimes called "zari") is an intricate embroidery technique that uses gold and silver metal wire in place of thread or yarn. Unusual in its use of the technique on both the front and the back of the handbag, A work of art. The metal is guaranted non-tarnishable. The design is taken from inlay work of famous Old Mughal Buildings of India.
The snap is engraved. Continental Jewellers has been in the business for six generations. These bags are rare and incredibly beautiful! As I get find more information I will post!
Stitching is lovely, stones shiny everything is in good working order. Lovely vintage condition.
