Vintage pair of framed Japanese woodblock print reproductions after Shunbaisai Hokuei (春梅斎北英 / 北英), a leading Osaka ukiyo-e artist active in the early 1830s. Hokuei was known for expressive kabuki actor portraits, and these two designs follow documented originals from that period.

Print Details

• Both prints carry the signature 北英画 (Hokuei ga) in the lower left, matching Hokuei’s original actor portrait format.
• Subjects include kabuki actors Nakamura Tomijūrō and Arashi Rikan II (as Miyamoto Tomojirō).
• These are mid-century woodblock reproductions (approx. 1940s–1960s), not Edo-period originals.

Condition

• Visible age wear: foxing, staining, discoloration, and frame wear.
• Frames are vintage and show signs of use.
